With the expected increase in domestic and international visitors following the deregulation related to the coronavirus pandemic, many hotels are now considering measures to accommodate guests with a high level of environmental awareness.

In the “Vegetarian, Vegan, and Flexitarian Population Survey of Japan” conducted by Frembassy Inc. in 2019, approximately 32% of respondents indicated that they practice some form of vegan-related behavior. Among them, relatively common responses were “not using animal products such as leather and wool products” and “choosing vegan menu items if available”. These results indicate a growing environmental awareness and interest in veganism among consumers.

In this column, we will introduce 12 vegan hotels and B&Bs (breakfast accommodations) in the United States. The food served is, of course, plant-based. Some hotels do not use animal products such as feather or wool bedding, fur or leather furniture in their guestrooms, and some hotels use cruelty-free soaps and shampoos that are not tested on animals as amenities.
Some B&Bs also allow guests to stay with their pets or are adjacent to animal sanctuaries where abused livestock and pets can live peacefully. We hope you will take a look at the various environmentally friendly efforts being made by each lodging facility.

Editor’s Note

Vegan hotels in the U.S. that are friendly to both the environment and animals. It is interesting to note that many of these accommodations are located in the great outdoors and are highly concerned with animal welfare.
Even if it is difficult to make the hotel 100% vegan, try introducing cruelty-free bath amenities that are not tested on animals, or working with local restaurants and organic farmers to add new vegan menu items. Why not take a cue from each accommodation’s unique ideas and start a new initiative?
